Greetings!

OK, here’s the deal — I’m 72 years old and slowing down. I’ve been making furniture professionally in Vermont since 1979. I sold my first pieces of furniture when I was 15 or 16, growing up in Carle Place, New York. My work is influenced by nature, the Shakers, and the Arts and Crafts movement, as well as modern-day masters Sam Maloof, George Nakashima, James Krenov, Wharton Esherick, Art Carpenter, and life experience. I believe furniture should be simple, beautiful, tactilely pleasing, and functional. “See, feel, and enjoy the difference!”

Things seem to be heavier than they used to be, and I’ve reached the point where I need to eliminate some of the larger, heavier pieces I’ve made in the past. I’ve also sold the incredible workshop I built in 2005 and am moving to a much smaller workshop in Rutland, Vermont. I no longer have employees, and the old shop was too big for me to maintain by myself. I’m still building for clients old and new, but at a different pace and with a more limited selection of items.

My primary focus will be on pieces like blanket chests, hall/entry tables, coffee tables, smaller dining tables, the Vermont Rocker rocking chair, small cabinets, and wonderful accessories like boxes of all types, charcuterie/cutting boards, clocks — and whatever else I see in a particular piece of wood. There are also a few items I plan to develop with aging folks in mind, like canes, a reliable step stool that doubles as a counter-high seat, and… cremation urns.

Those of you who have met me, or been to my shop, know I have a huge inventory of very special wood collected over the last 50 years, including lots of live-edge pieces that I’ll be using to create these beautiful things.
